How to Sell on Amazon in 2024 Beginners Guide

In this blog post, I will show you step by step how you can start selling with Amazon. I have been sell on Amazon since January 2021 and have been able to generate over six figures in sales in less than 12 months. So, you’re definitely not wasting your time reading this post. This will be a complete beginner’s guide and I will provide as much detail as possible. Let’s begin!

Amazon FBA vs. Amazon FBM

There are two ways you can start selling products on Amazon:

  • Amazon FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon): You send your products to Amazon warehouses and they handle storage, shipping, and customer service.
  • Amazon FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant): You store the products in your location and handle shipping and customer service.

I prefer Amazon FBA because I don’t want to deal with customer service or shipping. Amazon takes care of everything for me.

How to Find Profitable Products to Sell on Amazon

There are three types of products you can sell on Amazon:

Arbitrage Products: These are products you can buy from local retailers or supermarkets at a discounted price and resell on Amazon at a higher price.

Wholesale Products: These are products you can buy in bulk directly from wholesalers or brands and resell them on Amazon.

Private Label Products: These are products where you put your branding by working with manufacturers in China. You create a new listing on Amazon and sell the product under your brand.

Arbitrage products are easy to find but not scalable. Wholesale products have no limit on the number of units you can buy, making them more sustainable. Private label products offer less competition but require higher startup costs.

How to Set Up Your Amazon Account

To set up your Amazon account, visit the respective website for your region (e.g., cell.amazon.com.uk for the UK, cell.amazon.com for the US, etc.). There are two types of seller accounts: individual and professional. The professional account (paid) is recommended for selling more than 35 units per month and accessing additional features. Follow the guide in the description to set up your account, including a verification call with Amazon.

Finding Products to sell on Amazon

I will show you how to find arbitrage and wholesale products on Amazon. For private-label products, there are many resources available on YouTube.

Finding Arbitrage Deals

To find arbitrage deals, you can either visit your local supermarket or retailer or browse their websites. Look for sections like “office” or “clearance” where they offer discounts. Copy the names of the products and paste them on Amazon to check if they are profitable. Alternatively, you can use a tool called Profit Tool, which allows you to scan barcodes and provides information on Amazon prices and profits.

Using Profit Tool

Profit Tool has two main features:

Barcode Scanner: Scan a product’s barcode and get all the information about it on Amazon, including the profit margin.

Deal Finder: Browse a database of products that are being sold by suppliers or retailers on Amazon. This feature helps you find the most profitable products.

Finding Wholesale Products

To find wholesale products, you can search for wholesalers in your country on Google. Create trade accounts with them and ask for their product catalogs. Copy the names of the products from the catalog and paste them on Amazon to check for profitability. Building a good relationship with wholesalers and consistently ordering a high number of units will help you open accounts with them.

Another way to find wholesale products is by searching for local wholesalers on Google. Visit them directly or call them to inquire about opening an account. Having access to local wholesalers can provide unique product opportunities.

How to Analyze Products for Sales Potential

Once you have found potential products, it’s important to analyze their sales potential. One key metric to consider is the Best Sellers Rank (BSR). The lower the BSR, the higher the sales volume of the product. You can find the BSR on the product information page on Amazon. Use the BSR to determine the demand for a product.

When looking for a product to sell on Amazon

There are a few things you should check:

Step 1- The Best Seller Rank (BSR) should be below 100,000. A lower BSR indicates a faster-selling product.

Step 2- Check for consistent reviews by clicking on the ratings and changing to “most recent”. Make sure there are reviews throughout every month.

Step 3- If the product has variations, check which one is selling better by looking at the ratings and checking the most recent reviews.

Step 4- Do a test order of 10 to 50 units to see if the product is selling well and how fast it is selling.

Step 5- Once you have found a product, you can add it to your inventory by finding the ASIN and going to your Amazon account. Go to “Catalog” and “Add Product”. Paste the ASIN, select the condition as “new”, add the price, and select “Amazon will dispatch and provide customer service” for FBA.

Step 6- Disable all other marketplaces except for the one you want to sell in. Click “Save and Finish” and select “Print and apply Amazon’s barcode”. Using Amazon’s barcode ensures that your products are correctly identified and not mixed up with other sellers’ products.

Step 7- To send the product to Amazon, create a shipping plan by going to your inventory, selecting the product, and clicking on “Send/Replenish Inventory”. Fill in the necessary information and click “Save”.

Step 8- Before you begin the shipping process, make sure you have already sent the product once. To start, click on “No prep required” under Product Prep. If any specific prep is needed, it will be indicated by a yellow triangle. Most products will not require any prep, so you can select “No prep required” for those.
