China Launches World’s Fastest Internet

How Fast is High-Speed Internet?
Well, the answer depends on who you ask. In the 2000s, 10 Mbps was fast. That’s 10 megabits per second. That used to be revolutionary. But now, you can have 100 Mbps speed, and even that won’t seem fast enough. As the world grows, so does our internet, and it’s only getting faster.
Who is Winning the Speed Game?

The Backbone Network
The backbone network connects the main Chinese cities: Beijing in the north, Wan in central China, and Guango in the south of the country. The actual line spans over 3,000 km of optic fiber cabling. This network has passed all operational tests and is performing fine. It was activated in July, and now this week, it’s been officially launched.
The Speed of the Network
So, how fast is this new network? It can transmit data at 1.2 terabits per second. That’s 1200 gigabits per second. It’s astonishing, to say the least. Currently, with a 100 Mbps speed, you can download an HD movie in about 5 minutes. When it comes to an ultra HD movie, a 4k one, it will take around 20 minutes. Beijing says on this internet, you can download 150 4k movies in a second. If you take Netflix and download all of its movies, you’ll be able to send all of it in half an hour. Imagine that!
Now, China isn’t the most trustworthy source, and everything they say must be taken with a pinch of salt. But if true, it’ll be a big boost for China. For years, it has relied on the US and Japan for routers and other internet-related technology. This accomplishment defies industry predictions and puts Beijing in the lead to win the internet race.
