Saiful was later murdered. Anwarul and others were then accused of smuggling gold and murdering Saiful. In 2009, an arrest notice was issued against him, but in 2012, Anwarul was relieved from the case along with others.

Involvement in Smuggling and Extortion: Anwarul faced over nine cases for various charges such as arms, explosives, and narcotics smuggling as well as extortion. In 2008, Interpol issued a notice against him for his involvement in such criminal cases. He, however, was cleared of most charges by 2014.
