PCRIC names Richard Poulter Chief Risk Officer

Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) has announced the appointment of Richard Poulter as the company’s new Chief Risk Officer, effective July 1, 2024.

In his new role, Poulter will be responsible for ensuring executive management where the Board of Directors will have a comprehensive view of how key risks are managed and controlled across the business, in particular with regards to insurance product design, reinsurance, and capital management.

He will also actively engage with PCRIC’s member countries on their insurance policies, to ensure that the company offers policies which meet each country’s objectives for financial protection against key disaster risks.

Poulter executive will be working closely with the Risk Manager in identifying, assessing and managing the PCRIC’s risk exposure, including advising on and implementing the company’s reinsurance strategy, along with all aspects of capital management.

A qualified actuary, Poulter brings to his new role over ten years of experience working as an international consultant in Disaster Risk Finance to his new role.

Throughout his career, he has amassed a wealth of knowledge and expertise in financial strategies to build resilience against the impacts of natural disasters, combined with a deep knowledge of the Pacific region.

Poulter has been part of the PCRIC team since the company was established in 2016, acting as Actuarial Advisor to the Board of Directors, the CEO and the PCRIC team in areas of risk management, product development, country engagement, and financial and operational management.

He has also worked with the World Bank and other international organisations alongside his role with PCRIC.
